Reproduction with Oil Lamp Air-Damped $169 Liquid-Damped $189 A polished brass case with a round glass window surrounds the Gimbaled Binnacle Compass. It also features a built-in oil lamp on the side that can illuminate the compass. An air, or liquid-damped compass card is available for this compass. Either compass card has a solid brass enclosure and is fully gasketed. We have improved this compass by fabricating the case using heavy 20-gauge brass. The compass is fully functional, however, it is not intended for marine navigation. The compass measures 7 inches (17.8 cm) tall, 9 inches (22.9 cm) wide, the base is 7 1/4 inches (18.4 cm) in diameter, and the compass weighs 3 1/4 pounds (1.5 kg). This regular sized Binnacle Compass is approximately half the size of the large sized Binnacle Compass shown below. This compass can be ordered with an inexpensive custom solid brass plaque mounted on the oil lamp enclosure. The air-damped Gimbaled Binnacle Compass sells for $169, and the liquid-damped version is offered for $189. |

This large Binnacle Compass is approximately twice as large as the regular sized Binnacle Compass shown above and weighs almost four times as much. The massive size of this compass undoubtedly commands your attention when you see it in a room or on display. Real antique Binnacle Compasses this size usually cost over $3,000. A heavy, polished brass case with a front round glass window encloses the Gimbaled Binnacle Compass. The built-in oil lamp on the right side can illuminate the compass. The compass card is air-damped and the brass enclosure is fully gasketed and air tight. This compass is fully functional, but it is not intended for marine navigation. The internal gimbaled compass is 8 inches (20.3 cm) in diameter and the gimbal ring measures 9 1/2 inches (24.1 cm) in diameter. The compass measures 14 inches (35.6 cm) tall, 16 inches (40.6 cm) wide, the base is 12 inches (30.5 cm) in diameter, and the compass weighs 12 pounds (5.5 kg). This is a very large compass, appropriate for store and restaurant displays, but is usually too large for an office, so please be sure to check these dimensions before ordering. An inexpensive custom solid brass plaque can be ordered with this compass to be mounted on the oil lamp enclosure. We offer this Gimbaled Binnacle Compass for $295. |
