Admiral's Antique Reproduction Micrometer Drum Readout Black Finished Solid Brass Sextant with Two Telescopes and a Hardwood Case $340 The sextant comes complete with two interchangeable telescopes. The standard black 2-power non-inverting (upright) telescope produces a very bright and sharp erect image and measures 4 1/2 inches (11.4 cm) long and has a 28mm objective lens. Producing a more magnified image is the silver 4-power inverting sighting tube, which is 7 inches (17.8 cm) long and has a 22mm objective lens. The mirrors are correctly adjusted prior to being shipped, and future adjustments can be made using the adjustment screws on the index and horizon mirrors. Marked on the index arm of each sextant is a unique serial number. There is a large hardwood handle on the back of the sextant. The sextant's limb has a 7 inch (17.8 cm) radius and the sextant measures 9 3/8 inches (23.8 cm) wide and 10 inches (25.4 cm) tall, and 5 inches (12.7 cm) deep. The sextant is very solid and weighs 4 pounds, 6 ounces (2.0 kg) with the standard telescope, and the sextant with the hardwood case weighs over 10 pounds (4.5 kg). The sextant is accompanied by a beautiful velvet-lined hardwood case with formed storage for both telescopes and the sextant. The top of the hardwood case has a laminate on it, just as the original antique would, while the hardwood on the sides of the box does not have the laminate. The front of the case has a rotating clasp and a brass handle. The joinery on the case are all "Box" or "Finger" joints. Custom brass plaques are available for the outside of the case, inside the lid, or both. Even though the sextant is fully functional, it does not come with a certificate of calibration and is not intended for navigation. The British Admiral's reproduction brass sextant with two telescopes and hardwood case is available for $340. We also offer the similar C. Plath Reproduction Sextant and a Calibrated Tamaya Jupiter Sextant suited for navigation. |
