"Return of the Keeper" by John Morton Barber Stained Glass Oval
Regular Price $45, Now only $36.50
A tribute to the lighthouse keeper who spent weeks on lonely and hazardous duty, is portrayed
here returning from Annapolis, Maryland, in John Morton Barber's famous "Return of the Keeper."
The brilliant stained glass scene of "Return of the Keeper," takes place around the
turn of the century when vigilant keepers manned bay lighthouses and the majority of sea vessels
were powered by wind.
Today Thomas Point Lighthouse, built in 1975, continues to serve mariners on the Chesapeake, although
after 1986 it became automated and is no longer manned by a keeper.
Produced in the United States, the stained glass is meticulously crafted by artists applying individual colored
paints, one at a time, to textured cathedral glass.
Following the application of each color, the glass is dried and carefully inspected.
Finally, the artists permanently fuse the color into the paint by firing the glass in a kiln
just below the melting point of glass.
The Stained Glass oval is 6 3/4 inches (17.1 cm) wide and 8 1/4 inches (21 cm) tall.
The Stained Glass oval comes complete with a chain that can be connected with the two loops on the back of the oval,
so that it can be hung in a window.
The Stained Glass oval weighs 11 ounces (312 grams) and comes carefully packed in a white gift box
with a sheet of historical background.
The Return of the Keeper Stained Glass Oval by John Morton Barber is available for only $36.50.
